HUAWEI MateBook D 16 – the highlights
The 16-inch D 16 MateBook from HUAWEI is available in a version with AMD Ryzen™ 5 from the 4000 series. The successor models from 2022 come with either an i5 or i7 processor from Intel. MateBook D 16 from HUAWEI
The MateBook D 16 completes the D series of HUAWEI entry-level MateBooks with 16 inch devices. In addition to the first device from the series with AMD processor and Windows 10, there are also two other even more powerful versions. Intel CPU and Windows 11 Operating system that came onto the market a little later. The specs varies with the individual models. 512GB internal SSD hard drive with 16GB random access memory, however, are always standard. The same applies to the Full HD IPS display with a luminance of 300 nits. Differences can be found, among other things, in the connections, the webcam and the WLAN standard.
MateBook D 16 with AMD Ryzen CPU
Next to the processor, which delivers slightly less performance compared to the D 16 models with Intel CPU, the biggest difference is in the Keyboard. In comparison to the successor models, the AMD D 16 “only has a full keyboard without a number pad. The existing space is divided by two occupied speakers, which offer great surround sound. There is also a webcam with HD resolution hidden in the keyboard. There are plenty of connections, more than any other MateBook: next to two USB-A ports there are two USB-C ports (all with 3.0 standard), one HDMI slot and a jack connection. At 56 Wh, the battery is slightly smaller than the successor model, but this does not affect the runtime in any way, as the Ryzen CPU works more efficiently in a direct comparison.
Can you safely do without a webcam in the display and number pad? Then the D 16 with AMD processor and good features with nice extras is a real price-performance candidate. Originally there was a model with WiFi 6 and a model with WiFi 5. Currently only the latter is available. When there are many devices to be connected to WiFi network, WiFi 6 offers advantages, but these also depend on the respective use.
More is always possible – MateBook D 16 with Intel CPU
HUAWEI has tried to optimize the D 16 models with Intel as well as some other models. It’s not just about choosing the CPU. The display has only changed slightly. It has barely noticeably shrunk to an image format of 16:10 (instead of 16:9) and offers slightly improved contrast and a larger viewing angle. With the complete number pad that replaces the speakers, HUAWEI is putting the focus on work in the new models. This is also underlined by the new 1.5 mm key travel and the new positioning of the camera with FHD resolution in the display frame. The same applies to the metallic antennas, which ensure a stable network. The battery also delivers more power on paper at 60 Wh, as do the built-in processors. Super Device and HUAWEI Share
You can connect your laptop to other devices in no time. Register your device as a Super Device via the control center and link it to your smartphone, Tablet and or monitor. This means you can easily transfer files and search on different devices.
