HUAWEI MateBook D series
The D series models are HUAWEI’s entry-level devices . They are characterized above all by their low weight compared to other models with similar features and display size. You can choose between three sizes: the smallest model is the D 14 with a 14 inch display, followed by the D 15 with standard 15.6 inch notebook dimensions and the D 16 with a large 16 inch screen in the most compact housing . There are also differences in the range of connections, battery performance and features. This is where the D 16 2022 stands out from the rest of the “family”. It comes with a full keyboard with numeric keypad and 1.5 mm key travel, an AI camera in the edge of the screen, more microphones and improved Wi-Fi antennas. All HUAWEI MateBook D notebooks, with the exception of the model 53012RUX, have a slim metal housing in the color Space Gray.
Ultra mobile with the MateBook D 14
The HUAWEI MateBook D 14 not only has the classic ultrabook format, it can also keep up with the significantly more expensive competition in terms of battery performance. The 56 Wh battery is not only a good value on paper in terms of display size, but also impresses in practice with a running time of up to 10 hours or more. You can work comfortably on the 14-inch full-view display in 16:9 format, which is framed by a 4.8 millimeter narrow frame and has a viewing angle of an impressive 178 degrees . Thanks to a flicker-free and low-blue light screen, the eyes are also protected. With Wi-Fi 6, the D 14 is also state-of-the-art when it comes to Wi-Fi connection. Compared to the two larger models, there are the fewest ports, but that still means two USB ports, an HDMI port and a jack port. The pop-up camera remains a matter of taste. Anyone who likes to use video telephony often is probably better off with the D 16 and the camera in the frame. The performance is sufficient for most applications thanks to 11th generation Intel processors and 512 GB SSD . Only as a graphic designer or gamer do you have to make compromises.
The classic D 15 in variations
HUAWEI has packed the popular 15.6-inch size for an everyday notebook into the MateBook D 15. As with the D 14, the 16:9 format display is set in a narrow frame and has a wide viewing angle. The weight varies depending on the features, but is always under 1.7 kg , which is really great for the size with a metal housing. At 42Wh, the battery is slightly smaller than the D 14. The D 15 also has to do without the backlighting of the keyboard. There is one more USB port type 2.0 for this. The “problem” with the camera is the same as with the 14 inch models. However, apart from the built-in processor, there are only small differences such as the pre-installed operating system. Windows 11 is the standard for the newer models.
The D 16 with two faces
The MateBook D 16 is available in two different versions. While the “normal” D 16 is equipped with an AMD CPU and a display in the classic 16:9 format, the D 16 2022 has an Intel CPU installed and has a higher screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio . Despite the slightly larger display, the D 16 2022 weighs around 40 grams less. The camera is positioned elsewhere and instead of visible surround speakers there is a full numeric keyboard with 1.5mm instead of 1.2mm key travel. This provides a little more comfort when writing longer texts. While the D 16 AMD has two integrated microphones, the 2022 version has four. Apart from the USB standards, the connections are almost identical: two USB-A and USB-C ports , one HDMI and one jack . Another similarity is the backlight and Wi-Fi 6. In terms of price, the models with a comparable CPU (AMD Ryzen 5 4000 H-series vs. Intel i5 12th generation) are on the same level. Decide for yourself what fits better into your everyday life!
