Samsung’s middle class has developed significantly in recent years. The smartphones have many features and receive updates for a very long time. Unfortunately, the latter point in particular is still not a given in the lower price ranges.

Galaxy A54

The Galaxy A50 series is the middle point between the entry-level models and the Galaxy S models. In recent years we have always tested the models and they have consistently performed well.

The new A54 (photo below) offers you a 6.4″ AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate. The resolution is 1080x2340px (Full HD+). So you get crisp content and a smooth user experience. Unfortunately, Samsung does not provide any more detailed information about the SoC. But it should be an in-house Exynos processor. The RAM is 8 GB and you can choose between 128 GB or 256 GB for your data. According to Samsung, the smaller model has 101 GB of memory available, the remaining space is occupied by system data in the factory setting. If that’s not enough for you, you can also expand the storage by up to 1TB with a microSD card. Memory expansion is now a rather rare feature. You can also use the Galaxy A54 with two SIM cards.

For your selfies there is a 32 MP front camera that sits in a punchhole. The front camera performed well in the A53, and that should be the case again here. The main camera again has a triple setup. 50MP wide angle, 12MP ultra wide angle and 5MP macro lens. The latter provided useful service in the A53 when taking photos with a tripod and still subjects. Otherwise, such lenses are intended more for paper. The wide angle and also the ultra-wide angle, on the other hand, should deliver well again. Since Samsung has particularly worked on night mode on its smartphones, it can be expected that the Galaxy A54 has also taken a step forward here. The battery measures 5000 mAh.

5G, Bluetooth 5.3, and NFC – of course everything is included. The USB-C port is used for charging and as a headphone jack. In terms of color you can choose between Awesome Lime, Awesome Graphite, Awesome Violet and Awesome White.

The Galaxy A54 is available in four colors

As with the S23 models, Samsung is also raising prices here. The A54 with 128 GB costs 489 euros, the 256 GB version starts at 539 euros.

Galaxy A34

The A34 differs visually from the Galaxy A54 only to a very limited extent. The front camera is not a punchhole, but a teardrop notch. The AMOLED display here measures 6.6″ and also has a resolution of Full HD+, i.e. 1080x2340px. The refresh rate of the Galaxy A34 is also 120 Hz. There are no exact details about the processor here either, but it will almost certainly be an Exynos SoC. The RAM on the A34 is 6 GB and the storage for your data is 128 GB or 256 GB. As with the A54, 101 GB of memory is usable in the 128 GB variant. The battery is 5000 mAh and you can expand the dual SIM smartphone with up to 1 TB of storage using a microSD card.

The camera setup, however, is slightly different than the A54. The wide angle has a resolution of 48 MP, the ultra-wide angle has a resolution of 8 MP and the macro lens has a resolution of 56 MP. The front camera offers you 13 MP.

Here too, 5G, NFC and Bluetooth 5.3 are on board. The colors available here are Awesome Lime, Awesome Graphite, Awesome Violet and Awesome Silver.

The four colors of the Galaxy A34

The Galaxy A34 is cheaper than the A54. The 128 GB model costs Kshs 40-50,000 depending on specs while the A54 costs Kshs 55-63,000 depending on specs

Both smartphones receive Android updates for up to four years and security patches for five years. On this page you can check what stage your Samsung smartphone is in. As a rule, there are monthly security updates for the first two years, then the period increases to quarterly and semi-annually.
