It’s that time again: Like every year, Samsung is presenting new (folding) smartphones and tablets at the “Unpacked” event. This time the motto is “Join the flip side”. The Galaxy S9 tablets and two new tablets were shown: Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5.This time the big Unpacked event took place in the Korean capital Seoul, a home game for Samsung.

Samsung Tab S9, S9+ and S9 UltraThe entire Tab S9 series comes with Android 13 and One UI 5.1.1, but the next version of One UI is currently in the works. All three models work with Wi-Fi 6E and connect to all sorts of accessories using the latest Bluetooth 5.3. Optionally there are again devices with 5G and LTE. The built-in USB-C port for charging uses USB 3.2. The powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (for Galaxy), which is already used in the Samsung Galaxy S23, works inside. There are differences in the display, the cameras, the battery and the storage equipment. The normal Tab S9 has an 11-inch Dynamic AMOLED panel with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. It has a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels (WQXGA) and has a maximum brightness of 420 nits.On the back there is a single main camera with 13 megapixels (1/3.4″ sensor, F2.0 aperture, autofocus, 8x digital zoom) and above the display there is a front camera with ultra-wide-angle lens and 12 megapixels (1/3.6″ sensor, F2. 4 aperture). The memory is either 128 GB or 256 GB and 8 GB or 12 GB of fast LPDDR5X RAM. The storage can – really great – be expanded up to 1 TB using a microSD card. The battery has a capacity of 8,400 mAh and should be fully charged in up to 85 minutes. Fast charging works with up to 45 watts. The Plus version has a larger 12.4-inch display and a sharper resolution of 2,800 x 1,752 pixels (WQXGA+). On the back there is the well-known main camera with 13 megapixels and an ultra wide-angle lens with 8 megapixels (1/4.4″ sensor, F2.2 aperture). The selfie camera remains the same. The storage space has been increased to 256 GB and 512 GB, the RAM is always 12 GB. The battery also gets a nice update to 10,090 mAh and is said to charge in up to 93 minutes. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra offers a large 14.5-inch display and a resolution of 2,960 x 1,848 pixels (WQXGA+). The cameras on the back are the same as on the Plus, but there is now an ultra-wide-angle lens with 12 megapixels (1/3.4″ sensor, F2.4 aperture) on the front (above the display). The storage options are either 256 GB, 512 GB and even 1 TB. The RAM is still 12 GB, with the large 1TB version increasing to a full 16 GB. The battery also has a little more space at 11,200 mAh and should be fully charged in up to 98 minutes. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 is available in gray and beige. Prices start at 899 euros for the Wi-Fi version and 1,049 euros for the models with 5G. The Plus version is also available in gray and beige, prices start at 1,119 euros (Wi-Fi) and 1,269 euros (5G). The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra starts at 1,339 euros (Wi-Fi) and 1,489 euros (5G).Samsung Tab S9, S9+ and S9 Ultra: PromotionSamsung wouldn’t be Samsung if there wasn’t a purchase campaign at the time of publication. Until August 10, 2023, buyers will receive double storage when purchasing. The prices on the RRP are already displayed in the shop. There is also a trade-in bonus for old devices with a discount of up to 100 euros. To do this, you have to register your new tablet on the Samsung website and then send it in.Samsung Tab S9, S9+ and S9 Ultra: AccessoriesOf course there are also accessories for the new tablets. So that the tablets can also be used as a “notebook” replacement, there is a book cover with a keyboard and even a “slim” version of it. There is also a smart book cover and a particularly robust outdoor cover for outdoor use.For artists there is a NotePaper screen, a foil with a paper texture, and an improved S-Pen for drawing. For business people, there is a privacy screen that is intended to protect the display from views from the side. Finally, there is an anti-reflective screen protector, i.e. a large screen protector.Galaxy Tab S9 series in the shopSamsung Galaxy Z Fold 5If you want to see the Z Fold 5 in the video – no problem. We have uploaded a hands-on for you on Instagram and YouTube .The new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is a consistent development of the last model, but not a real “revolution”.The external display measures 6.2 inches and the large internal display measures 7.6 inches. Technically they are the same as last year, but the internal display is a bit brighter at 1,200 cd/m² and a full 1,750 cd/m² for HDR playback. The already very good hinge has been revised this time and now allows the inner display to fold flat. Gone is the wedge shape. It has also become a little more compact (67.1 × 154.9 × 13.4 mm) and lighter (253 g).The camera setup is also identical to the previous model. Thanks to the better processor, the images should look slightly nicer.A Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy with 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM now works inside. Storage space (UFS 4.0) is again available in three versions: 256 GB, 512 GB, 1 TB.The price, however, has increased slightly: 1,899 euros for 256 GB, 2,019 euros for 512 GB and 2,259 euros for 1 TB. You can choose from Phantom Black, Cream and Icy Blue, while Samsung also offers gray and blue.Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5The popular Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is getting a larger and therefore more practical external display this year. From 1.9 inches it goes straight to 3.4 inches. However, the OLED panel with 720 × 748 pixels at 60 Hz cannot be used as freely as its competitor Motorola. Here the selection of apps and functions is highly tailored. However, there is an experimental mode in the options to be able to use more apps on the external display.A Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy with 8 GB of LPDDR5X RAM now also works inside. The storage options are 256 GB and 512 GB. As a small update, there is now also Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 and the battery has grown by 400 mAh to an impressive 3,700 mAh.Otherwise – including the cameras – nothing or only little has changed compared to its predecessor. The prices have also increased slightly this year: 1,199 euros for 256 GB and 1,319 euros for 512 GB. You can choose from cream, lavender and mint as colors. If you order directly from Samsung, blue, gray, yellow and green are also included.Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Fold 5: UpdatesBoth smartphones come to you with Android 13 and OneUI 5.1, a major update (Android 14 and OneUI 6) is already in the works. It’s worth mentioning that Samsung promises four years of new major Android versions and up to five years of security updates.Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Fold 5: actionOf course there is another promotion here to start pre-orders. Until August 10th, buyers get double the storage. You can also have your old smartphone traded in and save money, but without a device you can get 100 euros off the price during the promotional period. Until July 29th, Samsung Care+ insurance coverage is available for free in addition to all other bonuses.Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 and Watch 6 ClassicIn addition to the tablets and smartphones, the latest version of the Galaxy Watch was also presented. The sixth generation appears in two versions: “Normal” and “Classic”. The latter offers a rotating bezel. The normal version is available in 40 and 44 mm, each with a 1.3 or 1.5 inch display. The Classic has 43 and 47 mm, and the displays are also 1.3 or 1.5 inches. The display is protected from scratches by a sapphire crystal and the display edges have been shrunk. The watch is operated by gestures on the edges of the display, in the normal version by a digital bezel and in the classic version by a real physical bezel. But this isn’t entirely new; Galaxy Watches had something like this before. In the fifth generation, however, the rotating bezel took a break. An Exynos W930 now works as a processor inside, which – according to Samsung – should offer up to 18 percent more performance. It should also use less energy. In addition to the processor, there is 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. The battery has also been slightly improved and is now 300 mAh or 425 mAh. This means that the watch should last a lot longer than its predecessor. On the bottom there is a “Samsung BioActive Sensor” that can measure heart rate, electrical heart signal and bioelectrical impedance analysis. He also masters temperature measurements, acceleration measurements, barometers, gyroscopes, geomagnetic and light measurements. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Classic also has a 3D Hall sensor. In a classic way, the watch can monitor your sleep and your sports. These features were already pretty strong in its predecessors. There are now five personalized heart rate zones for analyzing physical performance. The “HR Alert”, which is intended to indicate and alert people when heart rates are particularly high or low, is currently still being developed or certified. This alarm complements the ECG and blood pressure measurement. In addition, the menstrual cycle should also be monitored via the skin temperature and the surface temperatures of various things (metal, wood, plastic, etc.) should be measured. There is also a small change to the accessories and the bracelets: a new one-click mechanism is intended to retract the pins of the bracelets and thus make the process easier. Older bands, such as the 5th generation, continue to work. The normal Galaxy Watch 6 is available for 319.00 euros (40mm) and 349.00 euros (44mm). The Classic version is available for 419.00 euros (43mm) and 449.00 euros (47mm).What do you think about Samsung’s new tablets, smartphones and watches? Let us
